Outcome-Based Education and Multidisciplinary Learning Frameworks

The transformation of higher education in the twenty-first century has intensified the need for innovative pedagogical approaches that align academic learning with industry requirements and societal expectations. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and multidisciplinary learning frameworks have emerged as significant educational paradigms aimed at improving student competencies, employability, creativity, and holistic development. This research paper examines the integration of OBE with multidisciplinary learning systems in higher education institutions and evaluates their effectiveness in enhancing academic outcomes, critical thinking, and practical skill development. The study adopts a mixed-method research design involving secondary literature analysis and hypothetical survey-based quantitative interpretation to understand the perceptions of educators and students regarding these educational reforms. Findings indicate that OBE-supported multidisciplinary frameworks improve student engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, problem-solving ability, and career readiness. However, challenges such as inadequate faculty training, curriculum rigidity, infrastructural limitations, and assessment complexities hinder successful implementation. The paper further discusses institutional strategies, industry collaborations, and policy implications, particularly in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and global educational transformation. The study concludes that integrating OBE with multidisciplinary learning creates a learner-centric ecosystem capable of producing adaptable, innovative, and socially responsible graduates.
